While Chris was wrapping up his final week of Annual Training - I (naturally) was out playing. A few months ago I found a killer deal on a plane ticket to California to visit Eileen and Ben. I bailed from work an hour early, ditched the dog at the kennel and hit the road. Next thing you know, I'm sitting front row (ok - it was a Southwest flight, all economy - but it sounds like I was in first class) jet settin' to San Fransisco (ok - Oakland - but San Fran sounds so much better). The flight was easy and the skies were clear so I was treated to the entire Cascade mountain range (Rainier, St Helens, Hood, Bachelor, Shasta, blah, blah, blah).I arrived about 7:30 in Cali to be picked up by the best friend (in her new Honda Insight!) They took me to a local brewery for dinner and then headed back to the house. Sat morning we lounged over coffee and headed to the hills for some wine tasting. Ben was a very patient designated driver and Eileen and I had a great time. We went about an hour away to the Dry Creek/Russian River region. Eileen packed us a lovely lunch and we picnicked in the warm weather. That night was spent chatting, laughing and catching up. No distance can separate best friends and we stayed up late into the night to make the most of our time together. Sunday offered pedicures and Puerto Rican food before taking me to the airport that afternoon. I pouted the whole way back to Seattle (even though I was frightened by the lightening!) A very short trip, but very much worth it!
My hosts at our picnic location:
One of the wineries we visited - very Italian influenced:
Here is my future home. If you look in the bare grass area, there is a camper trailer nestled up there overlooking the vineyards - think I would get arrested if I parked a trailer there?
Best friends since pre-school!
Look Grama - she has your gift from my wedding hanging in their apartment
BUT - no pouting for long! I came back to a husband at home - something that's been missing for two and a half weeks!

Ha, ha, ha...I'm first to comment!
Eileen sure has the California sunglasses look. It's good to see her even if it's in pictures.
